Comcast still seems to be confused about what HD means to the public. In fact, they seem to think they know better than you as to what you want for your television.
That’s the conclusion that has to be drawn after reviewing the remarks made yesterday by Michael Angelakis, who happens to be the CFO for Comcast. Angelakis spoke yesterday at the Bear Stearns Media Conference, being held in
First, Angelakis let it be known that the consumer is wrong when it comes to their demands for HD. Said Angelakis: “not every HD channel deserves to be in HD, and there are lots of HD channels that aren’t watched very much.”
Thanks for that insight, Mike. Of course there are a lot of HD channels that aren’t watched much, there are just a lot of cable channels overall that aren’t pulling in high ratings. But all of your customers are buying $1,000 dollar, fifty-inch, flat screen TV’s for one reason- HD! I’m sure consumers love you telling them which channels “deserve” to be in HD, and which ones don’t. Memo to Comcast, customers want the best picture available, on all possible networks.
Angelakis next went on to give DIRECTV a compliment, sort of. “I take my hat off to DirecTV. They have had a single product focus. They have created a perception that they have a better product then we have.”
The “perception” that they have a better product? DIRECTV must be really pulling the wool over our eyes. Comcast, you can’t claim your better or have more HD when you don’t. If your going to compliment the competition on their performance, just do it like Dish Network CEO Charlie Ergen did recently. Just don’t then turn around and slap the consumer in the face by saying they are falling for so-called “perceptions.”

To Braxton: I love your articles, but there are a few grammar and spelling issues. Please look for them in future submissions because I really do enjoy reading your articles until I see the spelling errors. It makes me feel like I’m reading a high school newspaper rather than a professional website. I look forward to your future articles. Thanks,
