DISH Network expanded their local HD reach yesterday, adding another market to the lineup.
The addition was the city of Norfolk, Virginia. In addition, local HD signal will also reach the Portsmouth and Newport News areas. The addition of this market brings the total number of local channel HD markets to 55. Overall, this represents 64% of US households. So how is DISH Network doing on their promise to reach 100 local HD markets and have 100 national HD channels?
Here is a recap of what DISH Network promised as far as adding local HD on March 18th. They committed to the following cities:
April
Abilene, TX
Austin, TX
Baltimore, MD
Columbia, SC
Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, MI
Ft. Myers, FL
Greensboro, NC
Milwaukee, WI
Orlando, FL
Providence, RI
Tampa, FL
West Palm Beach, FL
May
Beaumont, TX
Burlington, VT
Grand Rapids, MI
Green Bay, WI
Greenville, SC
Huntsville, AL
Knoxville, TN
Norfolk, VA
Richmond, VA
DISH Network has made nice progress in the local HD arena, adding the majority of these cities in the month of April.
Nationally, however, many continue to be frustrated with their HD choices. DISH Network did add 3 national HD channels last month including CNN HD, Sci Fi HD, and the USA HD. But as far as the rest of the list of HD channels DISH provided as “may” add in 2008, viewers have seen nothing new.
