DIRECTV is firing up another special presentation on their in-house network “The 101.” This time it is the Championship Gaming Series or CGS.
Action kicked off on The 101 yesterday, and will continue through mid-July. Broadcasts will be each Monday and Wednesday, live and in HD on the DIRECTV exclusive station. Each broadcast begins at 10 PM Eastern time. The North American finals will be on July 7th and the world finals will be on July 14th.
So what is the Championship Gaming Series? Call it every 8-14 year olds dream. Get paid to play video games. Six national teams compete at various video games in an effort to collect their share of a $1 million dollar prize pot. The winning American team claims half of that prize money $500,000.
The CSG is only in its second year, so to have an agreement with a major distributor like DIRECTV to telecast CGS is quite a publicity win. All broadcasts will be in high-definition, with the competition taking place in a converted airplane hanger located in Santa Monica, California.
Following the American final on July 7th, five teams from across the globe will come in to face the top two American teams. To keep competition level, gamers match up in just four specific games. This year’s games are: Forza Motorsport 2, CounterStrike: Source Dead or Alive 4, and Fifa ‘08. Overall, there are 18 teams spread across six regions worldwide in the Championship Gaming Series.
