Charter is the best. My friends have Direct TV, and it's horrid. When using the menu, it lags and freezes up; it's all very jumbled and overwhelming on the eyes. Plus, get this: A lot of the movies that I watch for free On Demand, they have to pay $3.99 for. How ridiculous is that? I've noticed that Charter releases movies a lot faster and overall, that's all I care about. Direct TV may have better clearity, features, DVR, ect., but it's menu sucks, the DVR menu is a mess, and a lot of the big titles that Charter has for free, cost money from Direct TV. Oh! And the biggest gripe: Their programming is set to an Eastern time zone, and living on the west coast, that's horrible. I've stayed the night at these friends, and around midnight, I'll start looking for a good movie to watch, and what do I see? Paid programming. Why? Because it's like 4 o' clock on the East Coast, and most of the late movies are over. If you want to have a movie night with friends, and you have Direct TV, you'd have to settle down at 6 p.m. just to browse for a movie. Ridiculous. Charter may not be the best, but I love their On Demand, and when it comes down to it, that's all I really care about. I can't even access my friend's Direct TV on demand because it requires internet, which is another scam.

Personally, I’ve had cable and I’ve had DirecTV and frankly there are advantages to both situations. I mean there are many things to consider when trying figuring out a service provider. There are prices, programming, customer service reputation, quality of equipment and others. Being a customer and employee of DISH Network, I can say that from a consumer stand point that DISH was the way to go for me even before working here. The third HD receiver was free, DISH's DVR have the largest hard in the industry, so more recording time, 100% digital programming, the most HD channels in the industry, HD free for life, and Video on Demand in 1080p. There are plenty of reasons to go with DISH! (:
