DIRECTV Holiday Deal

December 1, 2009

DIRECTV is providing an added incentive to try out satellite TV this holiday season, with a new cash back offer for new satellite TV customers.

The DIRECTV holiday deal gives new customers a $100 Visa gift card with a new DIRECTV subscription. If you sign up before December 31, 2009 you will be eligible for the holiday offer. All of the DIRECTV packages including the Premier, Choice Xtra, and Choice package are qualifying bundles. The only package where you cannot get the cash back offer is the DIRECTV Family package.

So what kind of fine print is involved with the DIRECTV cash back deal? Not a lot really. Regular terms apply as a new satellite television customer, which means you are looking at a 24 month agreement as a new satellite TV customer. Free installation and free activation in up to four rooms are still included in the DIRECTV holiday deal, as is the regular discount for new customers. That discount is currently $26 off per month on qualifying packages, as long as you register at directv.com.  The deal gives cable customers another factor to consider when weighing Dish Network vs DIRECTV.

The main catch with the $100 cash back deal is that you must sign up for Auto Bill pay when you order DIRECTV satellite service. Basically, when you sign up for service, you will have to provide either a major credit card, or your checking account information so that payments can automatically be charged to you. While some don’t really like giving out their credit card or checking information, most will probably be enticed by $100 back from DIRECTV.

To be clear, the $100 DIRECTV offer is actually not “cash back.” They actually send you a $100 prepaid Visa card in the mail. And like most rebates you will probably have to wait a while until it comes in the mail. Terms and conditions on the DIRECTV website state that the $100 prepaid Visa card will be mailed within 90 days of activation.
