DISH Network Prices Compared to Cablevision

December 19, 2009

If you live in the northeastern part of the United States, there is a good chance you are served by Cablevision. This large company serves more than 3 million video households, making it the 5th largest cable television operator in the United States today. But what alternative do you have? Satellite service is of course the primary choice, so lets take a moment to compare prices from Cablevision and DISH Network.

Cablevision sells its service under the iO TV brand name, which stands for It’s Optimum. IO TV starts with the Family cable package and moves up from there. Family cable is $55.95 a month in addition to the $6.95 a month basic cable charge. The comparable DISH Network package would be the Classic Bronze 100, which is $44.99 a month with regional sports networks.

Cablevision offer the regular iO TV package for $67.90 a month. Networks like A&E and MTV are added to the Family package. A comparable Dish package is the Classic Silver 200, which nearly doubles the channel count from the Classic 100 for $52.99 a month.

The next offers from Cablevision include the iO Silver and iO Gold packages. The Silver package from Cablevision offers everything in the regular iO package, plus plenty of movies with the addition of Showtime, Starz, and Encore programming. The iO Gold package runs $99.95 a month, and adds in even more movie channels with multiple feeds of HBO and Cinemax.

DISH Network offers their Classic Gold 250 for $62.98 a month. While there are more than 250 channels, there aren’t many premiums other than a few Encore networks. The DISH Network America’s Everything package is $102.98 a month, and lines up with the iO Gold package for comparison purposes. You may save some by subscribing to a lower priced Dish bundle then adding in the premium channels individually. Cablevision prices can vary a bit depending on the state you live in as well.

Keep in mind you may have additional charges if you need cable or satellite receivers in multiple rooms, and also each company charges more for DVR service. Cablevision currently includes HD access for no additional charge as long as you have an HD receiver, while there is a $10 a month fee with Dish TV for high definition content.
