I have worked for both of then in customer service. They both have thier issues and poor ways to handle them. There are lots of benifits also. I like the fact that price does not keep rising every year because they cant get it together with major TV networks. ther are only 2 real major satelite compaines and 100 + cable companies. In my opinion I like Directv then Dish is a VERY close 2nd.
All depends if you want the sports packages. Direct is better there all the HBO Shotime and the others Dish has them beat. Just remember you don't really own any equipment with the satelite compaines and if you cancel them they will ask for or charge you for the equipment.

I'm thinking about going to dtv. I currently have Brighthouse and require only one box for my large HD tv. All the other tv's still get basic cable - no hd. Is this the case with dtv? Also someone told me dtv adds a smaller disc in addition to the regular one to ward off problems during thunderstorms. Is this part of the regular package or is there an additional charge?

Customer svc with Brighthouse is excellent. Does the same hold true with dtv? What about your brighthouse connections and HD box?

What is the additional charge after the first year is over.? I would be considering the Choice Extra pkg.

I see this post is a bit old so here is a little more info.
There are more than 160 HD channels available to customers right now not including sports programming and they are quality programming. Some companies boast more HD channels but many are video-on-demand.
Also sometimes they do a movers connection at no cost.
Directv has bundle packages now as well.
I have to agree about the contract though...I think that is pretty lengthy but many ppl don't mind.
Customer service has it's ups and downs in with all companies so I would like to hear more about this side of Directv.

plainlyspoken,

Feel free to leave any comments on DIRECTV, this is an open forum. Nowhere in the title or in the article is the promise made of comparing services. The article speaks for itself, it is speaking about the general pros and general cons of DIRECTV service, not Dish Network or anyone else.

As far as customer service, DIRECTV ranks higher than Dish, Comcast, Time Warner and other cable companies. That is not me speaking, but taken from national surveys. I would like to hear from you on hidden costs and conflict resolution if you have more to share. Of course, individuals have trouble with DIRECTV at times, just like any large corporation is going to have unhappy customers for both right and wrong reasons.

BTW, nobody pays for this site other than me, I am an individual blogger....

Okay, this seems like a Direct TV promo and not a real review of both services. Shame on you. I'm learning that the company with the link in the report is probably paying for this website. Also, the cons are ridiculously light. What about customer service, hidden costs, conflict resolution? This is sad.

Direct TV isn't bad but I don't have tv at all. A friend of mine has it and he really likes it but it does get bad when the weather isn't the best.
