DIRECTV Australian Open Mix

January 18, 2010

DIRECTV is once again serving up extra tennis action, with their interactive mix of the 2010 Australian Open.   This year’s coverage will run from January 17th through January 24th with plenty of live tennis action from Melbourne, Australia.
Titled the Australian Open Experience, viewers will be able to choose from several matches running on DIRECTV channels 701 through 708.  Customers who pay the $10 a month HD access charge will be able to see all of the channels in high definition as well.  Rafael Nadal defends his 2009 Australian Open championship, a memorable five set victory over chief rival Roger Federer.   On the women’s side, Serena Williams is the defending champ, and will be seeking her fifth Australian Open title.
The main channel to take note of if you are a DIRECTV customer is 701, which will be the Australian Open Mix channel.  Here you will find up to six different matches in progress at any given time.  Watch them all at the same time, with audio from your choice, or select one of the matches and watch it full screen.
Channels 702 through 708 will feature early round action from Melbourne Park.  ESPN2 and the Tennis channel provide commentary on the action.  The 2010 Open is marks the second time DIRECTV has offered the expanded Mix coverage, following up on the 2009 debut.  Action starts each evening at 7PM Eastern, allowing Americans prime time viewing that is not available with the French Open and Wimbledon tournaments.
DIRECTV also helps you keep up on the action via the red ScoreGuide remote control button.  While Scoreguide usually keeps you up to the minute with NBA, NFL, and NHL scores, it serves a different function if you are already tuned in on the DIRECTV mix channels.
One feature that pops up once you push the RED button on your remote control is matches in progress.  Here you can see all of the current matches in progress on channels 702 through 708, plus the schedule of upcoming matches.  Recent results are also available here, with real time scoring for matches in progress and those already completed.  Finally, an interactive bracket is available through the RED button, showing both the Men’s and Women’s Draws right on your HDTV.
