One of the big advantages cable TV companies have over satellite is their ability to offer triple-play bundles of service. While satellite television has a one way delivery system, cable TV has a last mile network which allows phone and internet service. Another player though in many markets is Verizon, as they have built an all fiber optic network which allows them to compete with cable and satellite. The Verizon FiOS Triple Play offers everything you can get with a cable triple play, so it may be worth investigating.
Many potential Verizon Fios customers currently have a Comcast Triple play or a Time Warner cable Triple play bundle. While these cable TV packages are usually a good deal during the first year promotional period, the price often skyrockets after 12 months. Verizon Fios Triple play packages also offer promotional pricing during the first year, but the impact after that time isn’t quite as dramatic as cable bundles.
The first part of the Fios Triple play is the Fios TV portion. Most Fios reviews report better picture quality with the all fiber delivery system Verizon uses. While you probably won’t notice much of a difference if you are comparing to DIRECTV HD or DISH Network, you will notice just as many HD channels with Fios. In fact, you will probably find more HD than with your former provider, whether it be satellite TV or cable.
Next up in the Fios Triple play is the high speed internet service. Fios internet is really what many customers rave about once they get the service. Verizon is offering speeds up to 50 Mbps downstream with their fiber optic network. While that level of internet speed is fairly expensive, it is nice to at least have access to lightning fast service if you work from home or have multiple users.
The final piece of the Verizon Triple play is their home telephone service. The Freedom Essentials calling plan utilizes the same fiber optic network and gives customers everything they have traditionally come to expect from the local phone company. A dozen or so calling features like caller ID and voice mail are included, as is unlimited local and long distance calling.
The nice thing about Fios packages is that you can mix and match your TV and Internet services to meet your needs, and keep the price down if that is important. Fios deals in 2010 can save you $300 during the first year of service if you order online. Triple play packages start as low $84.99 for the first year, and $109.99 for the second year of service with Verizon. Installation is free, though there is a two-year commitment on these Verizon packages similar to the deals offered by DIRECTV and DISH Network.
