Verizon FiOS Pricing

February 22, 2010

If you live in an area where Verizon FiOS is being deployed, you may be looking into what they have to offer. With times being tight for many Americans, one of the important factors to consider is Verizon FiOS pricing. Is it in line with what you can expect to pay for cable or satellite TV? Is the price for FiOS service going to be worth it?

When Verizon began offering FiOS service, they came in with an extremely low pricing structure in order to entice customers away from their primary cable competitors, which are Comcast and Time Warner cable. Five years later, FiOS pricing is still competitive, but not quite the deal it once was. That being said, Verizon FiOS runs over an advanced all fiber-optic network. Many who have reviewed Verizon FiOS have thus given high marks to the Telco for having excellent picture quality and great download speeds with FiOS internet.  This is one reason Verizon now has more than 2 million video customers, and competitors like Dish Network and Comcast are standing up and taking note.

For the year 2010, Verizon has rolled out a new promotional pricing structure that offers their basic triple play package for $89.99 a month.  Other Verizon FiOS pricing options come in at $104.99 a month, and $119.99 per month.  All of these packages reflect a $20 a month discount off of regular pricing for two years.  So if you add up the Verizon discount, you will save $240 a year, or $480 total over the life of the contract with these online deals.  It is important to note that this particular Fios pricing plan is an online offer, so you do have to place your order through the Verizon website to take full advantage of the deal.

The FiOS Triple play still competes strongly with the competition, namely Cablevision, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable.  These three companies are the main competitors against Verizon, though DIRECTV and DISH Network satellite service should also be factored in.  Satellite TV companies are at a disadvantage though in that they cannot offer true Triple play packaging like cable and telecom companies.   The latest Verizon Fios pricing offer undercuts most cable TV triple play bundles by $10 a month.  They often offer bundles like this for an introductory price of $99 a month for a one year period which also include voice, video and high speed internet service.

One thing to remember if you are considering the Verizon FiOS deals being offered is that the low price point offers the basic level of service.  The $89.99 package includes the Freedom Essentials voice option, the FiOS internet 15/5 Mbps option, and the FiOS TV Prime HD.  This TV package includes over 220 video and audio channels, and also includes 40 HD channels.  At this time, there is not any additional HD charge with the current FiOS cost structure.   The higher priced FiOS packages offer both faster internet speeds and more TV channels as well.

Pricing on FiOS Sports packages is similar to that of cable and satellite TV companies.  NBA League pass, NHL Center Ice, and the MLB Extra Innings packages are all available through Verizon, and have the same per season pricing structure as the competition.

Verizon fios has good service but their pricing is relentless. I just got a new DVR box 3 months ago, and forgot to send it back before they starting charing me regular prices, which I’m sure was an intention. My bill was $857 Dollars, because of all the series I had recording to the box. That is absolutely disgusting. All the series that were recorded, could easily be caught up on through my internet, which is also supplied by Verizon. What part of the game is this, trying to take money out of pocket, just for the hell of it.

I don’t know how old this post is, but the information is wrong. Fios charges a bunch for HD channels, they are NOT part of the basic packages. They are also in the habit, in my area anyway, of adding services (and charges) not requested, forcing the users to call them to make corrections on a regular basis.
