DIRECTV Promotions

March 2, 2010

When homeowners begin shopping for cable or satellite TV service, one of the things that catches their eye is promotional offer. Usually, satellite TV companies will add up all of the savings and advertise a high dollar amount as the total saved. True, this number is a savings over regular pricing though you would probably save a similar amount if you ordered a promotional deal from your cable company. Deals change several times a year, so lets take a look at the latest DIRECTV promotions which came out in February, 2010.

DIRECTV promotions can be found online, in your mailbox, on TV, in the newspaper and almost everywhere else. One place you can also sign up and get a DIRECTV promotion is with your local telephone company. Verizon offers FiOS TV and AT&T offers U-verse TV, but these products are in the process of being deployed and are not yet available in all of the areas covered by these phone companies. If you can’t get FiOS or U-verse, they will gladly sell you DIRECTV, and in return they get paid a small amount of the subscription fee for basically doing nothing but sell the service.

One thing to remember that while the DIRECTV promotion gives you a great price during the first year, you will have to pay for at least one year of service at full price. Why? Because the satellite TV promos require you to sign up for two years, you will get the regular DIRECTV price for one year, then pay the regular price for the second year onward. That being said, you can save up to 50% off of your regular satellite TV costs with the latest promotion.

The DIRECTV Choice package is available for $29.99 a month for one year, which is a $29 savings off of the normal price and thus just about a 50% savings for new customers.

The Choice Xtra package is offered at $34.99 a month for a year, again a $29 discount over normal DIRECTV prices. The new DIRECTV Choice Ultimate package is $39.99 a month, also a $29 discount over normal rates.

The all-inclusive DIRECTV Premier bundle is offered at a promotional price of $85.99 a month, versus a regular price of $114.99 a month. DIRECTV often ties in this package with their annual NFL Sunday Ticket promotion, but that will not be released for several months, probably in July or August 2010. Last year’s Sunday Ticket deal offered 5 months free of the Premier package when subscribing to DIRECTV and paying for the NFL Ticket.

Another nice feature of the latest DIRECTV promotion is the two HD upgrades that are available when it comes to the equipment involved. If you order the Choice Xtra or higher, you can get two HD receivers without paying anything up front. You can get one HD DVR and one HD receiver, or two HD receivers if you don’t want the digital video recorder.

Even if you are with a cable company like Cox or Comcast, you can use the DIRECTV promotions being advertised to your advantage. By calling your cable operator and telling them you are thinking of making the switch to DIRECTV, they may offer you some sort of discount or additional free programming to keep you happy.

There is a lot to consider when choosing a provider for your television; prices, programming, customer service reputation, quality of equipment and others. Being a customer and employee of DISH Network, I can say that from a consumer stand point that DISH was the way to go for me even before working here. The third HD receiver was free, DISH’s DVR have the largest hard in the industry, so more recording time, 100% digital programming, the most HD channels in the industry, HD free for life, and Video on Demand in 1080p. The decision for me was easy.

Anyone know of a good Direct TV coupon code? I have been searching for one all day long for my Mom. I tried to tell her that there aren’t any Directtv coupons but she is insisting she saw one in the mail…which of course she threw in the trash. DOH!

I was promised 1 full year of special pricing plus $100 ($10 for 10 months) for referral credit. I only got the special pricing for 2 months of the last 11. I only get $90 credit (9 months) because of a move suspension of 30 days. Their advertising is fraudulant! DON”T fall for it! I’m going to get rid of DTV as soon as I can. Never has their billing practices been as promised. Every month their is a problem that I have to call about. I think they just hope we are too lazy to call & get errors fixed.
