Satellite TV Bundles

April 17, 2010

If you are looking to cut you utility bills, one possibility is a satellite TV bundle from either Dish Network or DIRECTV. Depending on what you are paying your cable television company, a satellite bundle could save you upwards of 30% during the first year of service, and anywhere from 5 to 15 percent after the promotional period ends. Lets consider the options available with satellite TV service.

Now there are two ways you can approach building your bundle, and much of it depends on which provider you are interested in signing up with. With Dish Network, you pretty much have to get your satellite service from them directly or with one of their authorized retailers, then get other service like DSL somewhere else. With DIRECTV, you may have the option of bundling satellite service along with one of the major local Telco operators.

DIRECTV has resale agreements in place with the three major telecom companies – AT&T, Verizon, and Qwest Communications. Oftentimes you can bundle satellite service with DSL and home phone service from these companies. AT&T does have their U-verse service in many areas, as does Verizon with their new FiOS offer. If they have their own service in their area, they may refuse to bundle satellite TV from DIRECTV, as they of course want you to subscribe to their own offer and make more money from the subscriber. Qwest on the other hand does not have its own cable television service, so they will be more than happy to offer you a DIRECTV bundle with their fiber optic fast internet.

Now if you are going to just get the satellite bundle on your own, Dish Network offers the following packages. The Dish Family and America’s Top 120 are both $24.99 a month, though on the latter package that is a promotional rate for one year. The America’s Top 200 and America’s Top 250 are $37.99 and $47.99 a month, again discounted by $15 a month for one year. The final bundle is the America’s Everything bundle offer for $84.99 a month.

Satellite TV bundles from DIRECTV start at $29.99 a month for the Family and the Choice packages, with the second option being a one year promotional rate. The Choice Xtra and the Choice Ultimate are $34.99 and $39.99 a month, again being dropped in price for new subscribers for a one year period. The all inclusive from DIRECTV is the Premier package, which has all of the movie channels and is $85.99 a month. The DIRECTV price drop is $29 off of each package.

All of the above bundles are base rates, you are probably going to want to customize them with either DVR or high definition service, which is added in separately. You can also get Spanish satellite TV bundles from either provider, which usually have upwards of 40 extra foreign channels with either Dish Latino or DIRECTV Mas. Promotional offers are also available on Spanish packages, so again everyone can save over the cable television package rates that seem to keep climbing.
