Cox communications is the big cable TV company serving the San Diego, California area. If you live in this area or one of the surrounding communities like National City, Lemon Grove, or El Cajon you are probably at least somewhat familiar with Cox cable. Of course many have transplanted to the Southern California from around the country or even other parts of the world. Lets look at a few of the basics when it comes to Cox cable in San Diego and what they have to offer.
The main advantage with Cox when compared to satellite services from Dish Network or DIRECTV is the packaging factor. With Cox in San Diego, you can bundle your cable TV service with high speed internet or home phone service. If you go with satellite TV, you will have to order high speed internet through AT&T or Verizon depending on who services your area, or get it from Cox anyway. There are of course certain advantages with satellite, including more foreign language options if you are have moved to California from another part of the world.
Cox Advanced TV is the main product sold in the San Diego community, as this is the bread and butter product for Cox Communications. Obviously if they can get the customer to subscribe to their cable television service, they will have a much better chance to bundle additional services as well. There are four different Cox cable packages available to residents in the area, ranging in price from just $18 a month up to $65 for the Cox Premier package.
The two low price options in San Diego include the Cox Starter for $17.99 and the Cox Essential for $51.99 a month. The starter option only has 23 channels, many of which are locals both in English and Spanish. Cox Essential is more along the lines of a basic cable package, with more than 70 channels total.
The Cox Preferred package offered at $61.99 is really where the good stuff starts. Here you will find more than 250 audio and video channels. Free HD channel access and free on-demand programming is also part of the deal. You can add Cox DVR service with this package as well, which is $9.99 a month though the current deals waive this for three months.
Cox Premier offers much more for $64.99 a month, including 67 all music channels. You also get to pick up to three different “channel paks” with this package compared to just one with the Cox Preferred. The Latino Pak is available in both of these packages from Cox, offering San Diego customers up to 44 Spanish language choices.
A final advantage with Cox cable is their carriage of San Diego Padres baseball games. Time Warner and Cox, the two main cable TV players in the San Diego market continue to carry the games while AT&T Uverse and DIRECTV have been locked out for some time. A recent FCC decision means this won’t last much longer, but for the 2010 season Cox is your ticket to San Diego baseball on TV.
