Optimum Triple Play

June 19, 2010

The Optimum Triple play package from Cablevision will get you set up with all three of your home communication services. But will you be getting a good deal? Is the Optimum triple play the right way to go when comparing it to satellite TV services like Dish Network and DIRECTV? Lets take a closer look at the iO triple play package.

The good thing about the Optimum triple play bundle is that you only have to make one phone call and deal with one company to get everything set up in your home. This of course assumes that you want not only cable TV service, but also high speed internet access and home phone service as well. The other good thing about iO TV packages is that there are good deals for first time customers, or customers returning from a satellite TV company like Dish Network.

The current Cablevision deals get you into all three services for $29.95 each. You do have to get all three pieces of the iO triple play to get that price, so you can’t drop the phone service and still get Optimum TV and Optimum Online internet for that rate. The price is good on this package for one year, after which you will be charged regular rates for your triple play bundle. Since Cablevision serves a few different areas in the Northeastern part of the United States including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut it is a good idea to get a quote from them on what the price will be after one year. Each area has slightly different pricing so Cablevision is your best source to get the exact rate.

One nice thing that Cablevision offers to existing iO TV customers is the Optimum Triple play upgrade. If your currently have only cable TV service with the company, you can do an upgrade to the triple play offer for just under $100 a month. While you do pay $39.95 instead of the $29.95 price for the iO TV part of this bundle, you still can get all three services and not have to pay regular rates. This choice would be good for customers who might currently be with Verizon for high speed internet or home phone service but want to consolidate with one provider.

Now if you are looking to find out what exactly you get with this triple play bundle, here are a few of the details. The iO TV part of the package offer about 265 all digital channels when counting both the video and music stations. Free HD is also part of the deal, including on demand content as well. You can add a DVR to the mix for an additional $9.95 a month.

The Optimum Online portion of the triple play gives you internets speeds up to 15 Mbps. This gives you plenty of bandwidth for multiple users or for downloading video and music through your cable modem. If you need more speed, Optimum Online boost can move you all the way up to 30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream, and is as low as $9.95 a month extra.

Optimum Voice rounds out the triple play package, and will give you unlimited local and long distance calling including access to Puerto Rico and Canada. Thirteen different calling features are also included such as voice mail, call waiting, and caller ID service.

With competition like the FiOS triple play in the northeast, Cablevision has been forced to hold the line when it comes to offering service at an affordable price. Hopefully as FiOS continues expansion, the Optimum triple play will remain a competitive option in the region.
