Time Warner cable continues to be a heavyweight in the pay television marketplace today. With more than 12 million cable TV subscribers spread across 27 different states, this cable company touches millions of Americans. Overall, Time Warner cable, or TWC is just slightly smaller than Dish Network when it comes to subscribers as the satellite TV company has just over 14 million paying customers. If you are in an area served by this company, you probably want to know what Time Warner specials are available, and how much service is going to cost you month to month.
Like most satellite and cable offers, the best Time Warner specials are reserved for new customers. Thus if you are just moving into a Time Warner service area, or if you are currently with Dish Network or DIRECTV you probably can get a pretty good deal. Here are a few of the TWC specials that are out there right now.
Most of the offers are marketed under the “All the Best” marketing theme, emphasizing that cable offers you more than satellite TV and other offers. While that is of course a debatable point, the one thing that cable can offer you is the triple play package. Time Warner triple play bundles of video, voice, and high speed internet access can get you set up at the same time and with one company. Rather than having to set up multiple installation appointments, you can get it all done with a Time Warner bundle.
The main All the Best special offer gives you digital cable with 200 channels, Road Runner Standard internet access, and Time Warner digital home phone for $114.85 per month. This price was taken from the Kansas City, Missouri market and may not apply exactly in other areas. The Road Runner standard with this Time Warner subscription offers speeds up to 10 Mbps in most areas, but that too may vary. Unlimited local and long distance calling is included with the digital voice piece of this bundle.
The “All the Best Lite” special includes the same digital cable package but a lower internet speed, Road Runner Lite which tops out at 768 Kbps. This would probably only be a good choice for those who only use one computer, and who mainly use basic web applications and e-mail. The same Digital voice package is also offered with unlimited long distance calling and home voice mail service. The price on this Time Warner package is $99.85 per month.
These two Time Warner specials are discounted by $25 for the All the Best offer and $20 for the All the Best Lite for a period of one year. Obviously this is how most cable TV deals work, get the customer signed up with a special offer then hope they stay and pay regular rates once the promotional period has ended. It is a good deal for the customer as well, just be alert to what you will be paying if you continue with TWC service after 12 months.
The current Time Warner cable specials also include some additional goodies as well. New customers get a free HD DVR and the HD Premium Tier free for the first six months of service. There is a fairly hefty price tag attached to the Time Warner HD DVR, it is $15.25 a month normally so add that to the price of service after the special is over. Additional HD receivers or regular cable receivers are $7.30 a month as well. The HD Premium Tier includes about five high definition channels like MGM HD and Universal HD. While this premium tier costs a bit more, the rest of the HD channels on Time Warner are free.
So are these specials better than DIRECTV promotions or the other offers available on satellite TV? It depends somewhat on your needs. While satellite TV deals don’t offer internet or home phone access, they do offer lower rates overall once the promotional period ends. On the other hand, satellite television requires a two year agreement, while with Time Warner specials you can disconnect service at any time for any reason.
