FiOS Double Play

July 10, 2010

If you live in an area where FiOS is available, you have several options when it comes to TV, high speed internet, and home phone service. One such option is the FiOS Double play, where you select two different services for your home. In this article, we will review the double play options available from Verizon in the eastern United States.

The FiOS double play is the best way to go when you don’t need all of the services offered by Verizon. For example, many people have DIRECTV satellite specifically for the NFL Sunday Ticket package, which is only available through the satellite provider. In this scenario, you could get the FiOS double play with high speed internet and home phone service since there is not currently an option to get Sunday Ticket with FiOS.

Others have made the decision to drop their home phone line and just use their wireless service. In fact, traditional phone companies like AT&T and Verizon have suffered because so many have made the decision to drop their landline and just communicate with their cell phone. A subscriber in this situation could get the FiOS double play including TV and high speed internet service.

The main advantage of constructing a FiOS bundle in this way is of course cost. You will save around $20 a month by getting a double play package with FiOS TV and internet without the home phone service. On the other hand, you might just want to upgrade into the FiOS triple play as for $20 a month you will get unlimited local and long distance calling across the country and not have to use up any time on your wireless plan. Like all things in life, there are pros and cons to consider with FiOS and the different packages they offer.

Since most who are interested in the Verizon double play will probably be going with the FiOS TV and internet options, here is a brief overview of the promotional pricing being offered. The basic double play option includes FiOS Prime HD with 230 channels of service along with the FiOS internet package with speeds of 15Mbps/5Mbps. Pricing on this is $69.99 a month before equipment charges are added for the FiOS DVR or other receivers.

The next level of service offers the FiOS TV Extreme HD package for $84.99 a month. Over 325 channels are included here with more than 65 HD options, and the internet package is upgraded to 25 Mbps/ 25 Mbps. This is a huge upgrade especially on the upload speeds for users at qualifying addresses. Access to thousands of on demand titles is also part of the deal.

The last FiOS double play deal is the FiOS Ultimate HD offer, which is $99.99 a month. Premiums like EPIX and Showtime are included here, along with another internet upgrade to 35 Mbps/35 Mbps. Thousands of FiOS on demand choices are also included as well.

Keep in mind these prices are promotional rates offered for just a few months in some cases. There are several options now with Verizon that allow you to hook up service on a month to month basis, but you will be paying more once the FiOS promotion expires. A better option if you are looking to stay with FiOS for a while is to go with the two year contract which allows you to lock in your discount for a the whole term of your agreement.
