The Dish Network Platinum HD package is a must have for those who want the most high definition content. What is included with the Platinum HD package? How much does it cost? Lets review the basics on this premium tier offer from DISH Network.
The Platinum HD package has evolved quite a bit over the past two years. When the Dish Network Turbo HD packages came on the scene in 2008, the Platinum HD add on gave you just seven channels for an additional $10 a month. Now the package is much more valuable, as it includes some of the best channels out there in high definition. Here is a brief overview of the content available.
Epix HD and Epix 2 are the top offers in the Dish Platinum HD package. These new commercial free movie channels are not yet carried in any DIRECTV packages, but are available on Dish Network, Cox, Charter cable, Mediacom, and Verizon FiOS. Epix is a partnership between MGM, Lionsgate, and Paramount, so you can be sure that some of the top movies will be delivered straight to your satellite dish month after month.
IndiePlex HD and RetroPlex HD are two more channels in the Platinum HD tier. IndiePlex features independent movies and films, while RetroPlex brings you older films in beautiful high definition.
Music offerings are a big part of this package, and two of the main channels are Palladia HD found on Dish Network channel 369 and Centric on channel 371. Palladia features content from today’s most popular artists, while Centric features R&B, soul, jazz, and cultural programming.
More movies are found on the Sony Movie channel, HDNet Movies, and MGM HD. All of these network offer hundreds of movies each month in high definition, oftentimes in uncut and commercial free formats. Sony Movies is in Dish Network channel 386, while HDNet Movies is on channel 383 and MGM is on channel 385.
If you are interesting in variety programming several options are available in the Platinum HD lineup. The Crime and Investigation channel is found on Dish channel 368 and brings detective and crime stories to you every day. HD Theatre is owned by the Discovery channel, and features high quality programming like Planet Earth and Extreme Engineering.
Shorts HD is a fairly new channel which delivers content in the short film format. Comedies, horror films, and animated features are some of the favorites found on channel 375.
A few additional channels round out the Platinum high definition lineup. MavTV HD follows the Spike TV format in featuring programming of interest to men. Fashion TV on channel 374 features the latest from designers, models and red carpet events. LOGO on channel 373 is targeted toward the gay, lesbian and transgender audience, while the World Fish Network (WFN) on channel 394 targets, well, fishermen (and women).
While a few of these channels may be of little interest to some, the overall package is a good value. With the Dish TV Platinum package you get all high definition entertainment content, and several commercial free movie channels for an additional $10 charge over your regular Dish Network package price.
